Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone's responsibility. At Alder Community High School, we are committed to providing a safe environment where all our students can learn, develop and thrive.
All staff have a responsibility to provide a safe environment in which children can learn. We maintain a vigilant approach to safeguarding, ensuring we are in a unique position to identify concerns early, provide help for children, promote their welfare and prevent concerns from escalating.
What is Safeguarding?
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children means:
- Providing help and support to meet the needs of children as soon as problems emerge
- Protecting children from maltreatment, whether that is within or outside the home, including online
- Preventing the impairment of children's mental and physical health or development
- Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
- Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes
How We Keep Your Child Safe
We take a child-centred vigilant approach to safeguarding, which means that we consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child. No single practitioner can have a full picture of a child's needs and circumstances, so everyone who comes into contact with children has a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information and taking prompt action.
Every member of our school community has been trained to identify children who may benefit from early help and to follow our safeguarding procedures. We have a designated safeguarding lead who provides support to staff and liaises closely with other services such as local authority children's social care.
Reporting Concerns
If you have any concerns about a child's welfare, please contact our Safeguarding team or Tameside Local Authority Safeguarding Team.
Report It, Sort It for Students
If you are worried or concerned about something or someone, please REPORT IT so that we can SORT IT.
- Are you worried about something or someone?
- Do you need to ask something confidentially?
- Do you need to talk about something sensitive?
You can use this form to report concerns about yourself or another person. Please provide as much information and detail as possible. The more information that we have the easier it will be for us to deal with the issues raised.
