Gatsby Benchmarks
The Gatsby Benchmarks set out what high-quality careers guidance looks like and were developed for the Gatsby Charitable Foundation. These eight benchmarks provide a clear framework to help us deliver outstanding careers education and guidance for all our students.
The Gatsby Benchmarks were updated in May 2025 and we use them to shape our careers programme at Alder Community High School. The benchmarks cover essential areas including:
- A stable careers programme with clear leadership and planning
- Learning from career and labour market information to help students make informed choices
- Addressing the needs of each student with personalised support and guidance
- Linking curriculum learning to careers across all subjects
- Encounters with employers and employees to understand the world of work
- Experiences of workplaces through work experience activities and placements
- Encounters with further and higher education to explore all learning pathways
- Personal guidance through one-to-one meetings with qualified careers advisers
Our careers programme has the explicit backing of governors, the headteacher and the senior leadership team, ensuring that careers education is embedded throughout our students' time at school.
The visual below shows how we're performing against each of these benchmarks, demonstrating our commitment to providing excellent careers guidance that prepares every student for their future.
This information will be reviewed and updated in Autumn term 2026/27
