Religion and Worldviews

At Alder Community High School, our vision for Religious Education (RE) is to engage, inspire, and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge to answer challenging questions. We encourage systematic enquiry into the significant human questions that religion and worldviews address. Our ambition is for students to develop a sound grasp of world religions and other worldviews, fostering empathy and respect for difference and diversity.

"The essence of all religions is one. Only their approaches are different." Mahatma Gandhi

We aim for our students to not only understand various beliefs and teachings but also to apply this knowledge and understanding beyond school, fostering an attitude of kindness and tolerance. Our curriculum respects all aspects of diversity – social, cultural, and religious – preparing pupils well for life in modern Britain. We encourage students to ask deep questions about their own faiths and beliefs, as well as the opinions of others, especially regarding contemporary moral issues. Through exploring ultimate questions raised by human life, students will develop well-informed and reasoned personal responses. Teaching across the department is consistently outstanding, with a culture of high expectations to ensure all students succeed and fulfil their maximum potential.
