Physical Education

"Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen." Michael Jordan

Our vision within Physical Education is to foster a lifelong love for physical activity by empowering every student with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead healthy, active lives. We strive to create an inclusive and supportive environment where physical education contributes to the holistic development of students—physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally.

KS4 Curriculum

At Key Stage 4, we follow the L1/2 NCFE Health & Fitness and AQA GCSE Dance syllabuses. Our aim is that all students at Alder have the opportunity to study health and fitness/sport at greater depth to prepare them for KS5 and beyond.

L1/2 NCFE Health and Fitness is a vocational course which includes coursework 60% and exam 40%. During the coursework students will act as a personal trainer which includes designing and carrying out a personal exercise programme. The exam will test students’ knowledge and understanding of all topics taught over the two years including anatomy and physiology of the body, fitness testing and methods of training to name a few.

GCSE Dance encourages students to develop their creative, physical, emotional and intellectual capacity. This course recognises the role of dance in young people’s lives and encourages students to perform and choreograph in a range of different styles. The study of professional works develops students’ ability to critically appraise dances of different styles and cultural influences. The course is 60% performance and choreography and 40% exam.

Extra Curricular and Enrichment

To enrich the curriculum, we offer an extensive programme that is available at brunch, lunch and afterschool. Please see the enrichment timetable.
