At Alder Community High School, we believe that excellent work deserves recognition. That's why we're excited to share details of our 'Best Book Award', a weekly celebration of outstanding learning across all subjects.

How It Works

Each week, subject teachers identify and celebrate the best book in their classes. Students whose work demonstrates learning excellence receive:

  • A special sticker to mark their achievement
  • Alder points to recognise their effort and quality
  • Recognition as an exemplar – their work is used to showcase what excellent learning looks like

What Makes a 'Best Book'?

Our teachers are looking for work that demonstrates:

  • High-quality presentation – clear, organised, and thoughtfully laid out
  • Depth of understanding – showing real engagement with the subject matter
  • Attention to detail – careful checking, corrections, and improvements
  • Consistent effort – maintaining standards across all pieces of work
  • Pride in learning – work that students can genuinely be proud of

Why It Matters

The Best Book Award does more than just reward individual students. When teachers share these exemplar books with classes, it:

  • Sets clear standards – students can see exactly what excellent work looks like in each subject
  • Inspires improvement – seeing peers' achievements motivates others to raise their own standards
  • Builds a culture of excellence – celebrating quality work reinforces our high expectations across the school
  • Develops metacognition – students learn to evaluate and improve their own work by studying examples

Celebrating Success

Winners are announced weekly in class, and their books are used as teaching tools to help all students understand what excellence looks like in practice. This isn't about perfection, it's about effort, progress, and taking pride in your learning.

We're proud of every student who receives this recognition and want to celebrate their commitment to attaining and promoting learning excellence at our school.

Well done to all our Best Book Award winners, keep up the fantastic work!
