Knowledge Organiser Booklets Now Supporting Learning at Alder Community High School

We're delighted to share that following their successful launch at the start of the year, knowledge organiser booklets are now being used across the school to support your child's learning.

What are Knowledge Organisers?

Knowledge organisers are booklets that contain the essential facts, key vocabulary, and important concepts that students need to learn and remember in each subject. They act as a powerful learning tool, helping students to:

  • Identify the most important knowledge they need to master
  • Build their understanding step by step
  • Revise and recall key information effectively
  • Develop confidence in their subject knowledge

How They Support Learning

Each knowledge organiser is carefully designed by our teaching staff to:

  • Break down complex topics into manageable chunks of information
  • Highlight key vocabulary that students need to understand and use
  • Show connections between different pieces of knowledge
  • Support independent learning both in school and at home

Students are using their knowledge organisers in lessons and for independent learning tasks, helping them to embed what they've learned into their long-term memory.

How You Can Help at Home

You can support your child's learning by:

  • Asking them to explain key terms or concepts from their knowledge organiser
  • Testing their recall of important facts and information
  • Encouraging regular, short revision sessions rather than last-minute cramming
  • Discussing how topics connect to real-world examples or current events

Tip for parents/carers: Little and often works best! Encourage your child to spend 10-15 minutes each evening reviewing their knowledge organisers rather than trying to learn everything at once.

Knowledge organisers should be kept in good condition and brought to lessons by students.

Looking Ahead

We'll continue to develop and refine our knowledge organisers throughout the year, ensuring they provide the best possible support for your child's learning. If you have any questions about how to use knowledge organisers effectively at home, please don't hesitate to contact your child's subject teachers, or see the guide below.
