As part of the Year 10 Careers Education Advice Information and Guidance at Alder we are pleased to be able to offer the opportunity to attend the following two taster days at local colleges in July.

  • Wednesday 3rd July: Ashton Sixth Form College
  • Thursday 4th July: Clarendon College or Tameside College

Students will be able to choose their preferred taster sessions in advance. On Thursday 4th July they have a choice of attending either Clarendon or Tameside college. This experience will be vital in supporting students to make good decisions about how they wish to continue in education, employment, or training after they leave Alder at the end of year 11. Full attendance and participation on each day are compulsory and usual school attendance and behaviour policies should be followed.

To allow students to fully experience what it would be like to attend these Colleges they must travel independently to and from the venues. Transport will not be provided. We recommend that they travel with friends. Information about how to do this via public transport will be provided in advance of the date.

Students will not be required to wear school uniform but must be dressed appropriately for the workshops, ie, best clothes are not advisable for certain workshops, e.g., trainers for sports, not best clothes for construction/engineering. Students will have the opportunity to choose different taster sessions to take part in in advance of the day. They should bring a pack lunch or notify school if they are on free school meals and require a grab a bag.

Please confirm permission for your child’s attendance via parent pay by May 24th.

If you wish to discuss either trip further, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Eaton at school.
