Welcome to Alder Community High School

Thank you for accepting a place at Alder Community High School. Hopefully your child is looking forward to joining us in September. Over the next few months we will share lots of information with you on this page about the school and what to expect when your child becomes a student at Alder.

Our transition team are putting plans together and are liaising with primary schools to ensure that your child makes a smooth transition from primary school to secondary school.  Our website contains lots of other useful information such as term dates and the Uniform and Equipment Policy. Much of the information may only be relevant whilst we are under current Covid restrictions and will be updated in due course ready for September 2021.

Data Collection Form

A key part of the transition process is gathering information from you about your child, if you haven't already done so please complete the admission form, using the following link: Alder Community High School Student Data Collection Form 2021

Transition Days

It is with great sadness that we are, following guidance from Tameside Population Health, unable to offer our usual transition activities this year. This means that the children will not be coming into school on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd July as we had hoped.

We still value the process of transition greatly and it is still extremely important to us that our students and parents can learn more about us as a school. This year, we will be launching our ‘virtual transition’ on our school website. Here you will find videos from your child’s form tutor, your child’s progress leader and a message from Mr O’Regan, Headteacher. There will be lots of information on this page which should hopefully give you an insight into what to expect in September and answer any questions you may have about what it's like to be a student at Alder Community High School.

We will send you information next week about how you can access the virtual transition and information about who your child’s form tutor will be and their Alder house.

We are hoping to hold a formal transition day for our new year 7s on Monday, 6th September 2021. This will allow students to familiarise themselves with the school building, our school routines and spend time with their form tutor. It will also give them a chance to ask any questions they may have before the timetable starts properly on Tuesday, 7th September.

We Are Alder - Year 7 Transition Summer School

Monday 9th - Wednesday 11th August

Children who will be joining Alder Community High School in Y7 in September are invited to join us for a 3-day summer school during the summer break, with the theme We Are Alder. This will be an opportunity for the children to see the school building and meet some of our wonderful staff. Unfortunately, they will not get the chance to meet their form tutor during the summer school but will be able to meet their progress leader (Mrs Hamilton). Children will be involved in a range of enriching and academic activities and although it will be useful for our new year 7s, please do not feel that you need cancel any existing plans in order for your child to attend, as family holidays are important too.

  • Summer school dates: Monday 9th to Wednesday 11th August.
  • Time: 9:00am to 2:30pm each day.
  • Refreshments at break time will be provided.
  • Lunch will be provided.
  • Children can wear their own clothes, uniform is not required.
  • With your consent we would like to take photographs of the summer school activities, which may be displayed in school or shared on our website and/or social media pages.

In order for us to plan our staffing for the summer school, we are asking parents/carers to book a place for their child by Friday 25th June, using this link.
