At Alder, our vision is to be outstanding in all we do. This includes students pursuing academic success and developing a set of skills which will prepare them for life beyond school. We have an ambitious academic curriculum for all students with hard work expected as standard. Our students receive the highest quality of education, and we invest in our staff to ensure they receive regular training to make them better practitioners which ultimately will result in better outcomes for students.

Standards are high and we expect the very best from our students; we want them to be the very best they can be, so they will be challenged. Students who leave us at the end of year 11 reach their desired destinations as a result of excellent teaching and pastoral support alongside opportunities to enrich their lives. A significant number of our students move on to higher education; successful Alder alumni have graduated from prestigious universities including Oxford and Cambridge.

Our curriculum is rich and varied and there are many opportunities to enrich students’ experiences through a variety of extra-curricular activities.  Please ask the staff you meet tonight about how they enrich the curriculum in their subject.

Our Alder values aren’t simply about school – they’re about everyone, everywhere, always. They are not a temporary philosophy linked to school but a set of values to follow for life. ‘We Are Alder’ is how you get a good job or an apprenticeship, how you become a good parent, how you get promoted and how you become a good partner. It’s about success in your whole life, not just your academic life.

Our Values

We encourage our students to live by our values in all that they do.

  • Altruism – having a genuine and self-less concern for others.

  • Leadership – inspiring and empowering a community to achieve a shared vision by leading by example.

  • Diversity – celebrating, accepting and respecting that everyone is different both in school and in our community.

  • Excellence – striving to achieve your best in all that you do.

  • Resilience – turning challenges into something positive and never giving up.

Alder is a friendly place; you will always find someone willing to help. Please ask our prefects for a guided tour should you need one and also talk to our students to hear their view on school life.  You can find out more about our school on our website, or if you wish, you can book a visit during the school day whereby one of the Senior Leadership Team will be available to show you around school.

Thank you for considering Alder Community High School.  We look forward to meeting you and hopefully working with you over the coming years.
