Welcome to Alder Community High School

This year we are unable to welcome families into school for our traditional Open Evening event or individual tours and meetings. We know that there is no substitute for seeing the school for yourself, chatting to our students and staff and feeling the atmosphere in the corridors and classrooms. However, in these unusual times, we have put together some information and media to give you a flavour of what it is like to be an Alder student and part of our school community.

The video message will give you an overview of the school from Mr O'Regan and allow you to meet Poppy and Joshua, our Class of 2022 Head Girl and Head Boy, along with some of our other students. The documents below will give you more of an insight into the school and will often link to other areas of our website where you can read more in-depth information at your leisure.

If you have any additional questions that we have not covered please do not hesitate to contact us by e mail admin@alderchs.uk or by telephone on 0161 368 5132.

Supporting Students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Alder is an inclusive school and is firmly committed to providing an appropriate and accessible curriculum for all of its students.  The focus of our support for students is on delivering quality first provision in the classroom through effective differentiation and the support of the Learning Support team, if appropriate. Additional help is available in a variety of ways from in-class support to small group work or, in some cases, an individualised programme.

Specialist provision is provided for students with specific learning difficulties, students with an Autistic Spectrum Condition and students with a disability.  The progress of all of these students is monitored and reviewed in line with the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice. Our highly qualified and dedicated SENDCo will be happy to further discuss our SEND support and provision.

A view of the school

Our prefects would have loved to be able to show you around our school building but as this has not been possible we have put together a range of photographs to give you a view of the school.

Parent Testimonials

My daughter is currently in year 11 and I couldn't recommend Alder highly enough to any other prospective parents. The standard of education is first class and I have found all staff to be incredibly enthusiastic educators who are able to pass on their passion for their subjects. When required, the pastoral care and support offered by the school has also been exceptional and I know that all children at the school are in the very best of care.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Alder to prospective pupils.  It has a welcoming building which is easy to get around and fantastic staff who always go the extra mile for pupils.  I liked the size of the school and how everyone knew each other.  No child goes unnoticed.  But most of all, I can honestly say that the best thing about Alder is how they all worked hard to understand my son and find out what he needed to succeed at school.  They saw him for the individual he is and as a result he blossomed under their care and attention.

I think it’s testament to the school and all its staff that, despite leaving a few years ago now, my son still calls in to see the school and catch up with staff.  It will always be a special place for him.  A place where he felt safe, nurtured and accepted. I cannot recommend Alder highly enough.
