Today we should be welcoming the year 6 children into school for their first transition day at Alder Community High School. It is always a day filled with so many emotions: nervous parents, nervous and excited children and excited staff. It’s one of our favourite days on the school calendar as we officially welcome our new year 7 into school for the first time.

Sadly, current circumstances means that this year we are unable to do things in our usual way. But that doesn’t mean that we aren’t excited about welcoming our new year 7, who in 5 years will be our #AlderClassof2025. This year we just need to do things differently.

Today we are launching our Virtual Induction Programme with a welcome message from Mr O’Regan (Headteacher), an induction and information video from Mr Heaton (Progress Leader for year 7) and then the part that the children are most excited about, a welcome message from the form tutors! We will be continuing to add more information over the coming weeks so please keep checking the website on a regular basis. We will also be sending some information by e mail so please make sure you let us know if your contact details change.

We hope that you enjoy the videos. A lot of care and effort went into making them (and a LOT of takes in some cases!!) as we wanted to try and get across what a great place Alder is. Please spend some time watching them with your child, the idea is that you use them as a reference point between now and September as you help to prepare your child for starting with us. If you or your child have any questions that aren’t covered in the videos or the associated documents please do let us know so that we make sure we include everything that you need to know between now and September.

We look forward to meeting you all in September but until then please use this link to access our Virtual Induction Programme.
