GCSE Exam Success

I am absolutely delighted with our students' fantastic GCSE results. Overall, the percentage of students gaining a grade 4 or above in both English and maths is 73% and 50% for grade 5 and above These are excellent results; both figures are predicted to be way above the national average.

There has been so much uncertainty about the results with all the changes the Government have made but despite this the students have pulled through with some magnificent individual achievements. Some of our students have struggled through adversity and have performed above all expectations.

Christmas Break

REMINDER: School closes for the Christmas break on Tuesday 20th December at 12.45pm and re-opens to all students on Thursday 5th January at 8.20am.  We would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Are you interested in becoming a Parent Governor?

Alder Community High School currently has a vacancy for a parent governor.  The governing body, with the head teacher, has overall responsibility for the running of the school. Governing bodies have three core strategic functions:

Support for the Homeless

Prior to half term my assembly highlighted the plight of the homeless  -  both from the point of view of people as well as animals.  A target of 834 tins of food was set  -  one tin from each student/adult in school or 25p which would then be used to buy tins.  The target was met!!!!  Over 1000 tins/packets of food was brought/bought and this will be being distributed at centres in Tameside.

Rock Guitar in 11 Dimensions

The Science Department is pleased to offer a fantastic opportunity for year 10 and 11 students to participate in a curriculum enrichment activity by attending the one hour show, Rock Guitar in 11 Dimensions, on Tuesday, 15th November at 6.30pm in the school hall.  The show will be hosted by Famelab winner Dr Mark Lewney, a guitar Physicist, who will explain the physics of rock using riffs from Vivaldi to AC/DC, explain the secret of the Stradivarius, and show how string vibrations might lie at the heart of the Big Questions about the universe.

Open Evening, Thursday 29th September at 6:45pm

Our annual Open Evening for Year 6 children and their families will take place on Thursday 29th September from 6:45pm until 9:00pm.

Excellent 2016 GCSE results!

Our GCSE results saw 72% of students achieving 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Maths.  More importantly, progress in both English and Maths was outstanding with 81% and 86% of students respectively making expected progress which is way above the national average.

Congratulations to the class of 2016 who, just like team GB, have surpassed all expectations – well done!
